Since I have received a lot of positive emails about the Wikirank post I made on Monday (from people saying that they were very happy to hear about a new tool that was free and useful), I thought I would find some additional SEO tools to share with you all. As I was looking around for some different tools, I came across a post on SEOBook titled “ New SEO Tools .” While the post was very helpful because it linked to over ten new tools that could be useful to SEOs, Aaron simply wrote a one sen

Local SEO guru Andrew Shotland just alerted me to the fact that Google is now serving the local “10 pack” in searches that don’t include geographic modifiers (original discovery by Google Maps expert Mike Blumenthal ). For those unfamiliar, the 10 pack is the block of ten local results that occupies the top results in searches where Google has a high degree of confidence in local intent. Until today, that confidence was based on explicit geographic modifiers (i.e. Pizza, San Francisco), but

I have been using the term online visibility for quite some time. I decided to use this term because I thought it represented what SEM is trying to do, which is increase a business’s online presence . Also I thought it was a good “non-technical” term that small business owners could understand. Hanan Lifshitz of Palore , recently had a very good article The Importance Of Measuring SMBs’ Online Visibility where he discusses what the term online visibility means to him. Hanan defines two

It was huge news two years ago when Google first started showing maps and local listings in Google.com search results. It was even bigger news when that display went from a max of three business to up to 10 (the “10-pack” as we’ve all been calling it). And I think today Google’s changing the local game again. You can now get local search results — a map, business listings, and all — even when you don’t do a typical local search. Mike Blumenthal discovered this today , and there’s already a

Well not quite every search, but as Mike Blumenthal just told me , the 10 Pack is now appearing in a number of broad, non-geo phrase searches. Some observations of the 10 pack’s behavior in Web results (the “Web Pack” anyone?): In every query I have tried the 10 pack appears in position #4. It still gets pushed down by indented results and universal results (e.g. news results in queries for “doctors”) but if you remove these results it seems to always be in position #4. There is someth

Mike Blumenthal wrote something very interesting today: Google is now showing the Local 10 Pack on broad single phrase searches with obvious local intent (nods to Florist SEO Watch who spotted this on Saturday and Cathy Rhulloda for pointing it out) without geo modifiers. He found it for a range of categories (such as florists, doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.) that Google has deemed local. I was able to see it on the search for “doctor” and a number of other searches: Not

March 31, 2009 MySpace and Citysearch today confirmed the launch of MySpace Local, a new local city guide using functionality and feeds from Citysearch, including its taxonomy of categorization, geography structure, search functionality and content. The site is launching a beta version of the site this week, with a general U.S. launch next month. It will be available on the Web and on MySpace mobile products. The two companies will share ad revenues, but Citysear

Google is now showing the Local 10 Pack on broad single phrase searches with obvious local intent (nods to Florist SEO Watch who spotted this on Saturday and Cathy Rhulloda for pointing it out) without geo modifiers. In US searches, the Local 10 Pack appears on phrases such as - plumber - locksmith - dentist - lawyer - doctor - used car - florist - health food - computer repair but currently not on the phrases new cars, web design or apartment rental. It is not
