I have blogged in past that mobile advertisement industry will probably grow and its the same feeling that has tempted companies like Nokia to jump in this arena. Unfortunately the latest news is that Nokia is planning to cut its workforce in the advertisement division: Just a year after establishing a division dedicated to mobile advertising networks, Nokia has slashed half the UK-based unit's workforce, with the loss of about 30 jobs. The numbers may not be huge in the context of ma

The number of people using mobile devices to get content is on the way up. Phones are getting smarter, more services are being offered mobile and apps are being created left and right. Mobile content viewership will only continue to rise. It stands to reason that mobile advertising will increase as well. Looking at mobile local search advertising, the Kelsey Group thinks it will be heading toward somewhere around $1.3 billion in the next four years in the US alone. "As mobile data cons

Earlier this week I went to hear an economist offer his take on the current economy and how soon it would recover. Long story short, I believe the speaker, who had outstanding credentials, was overly optimistic. (I really believe he may have been on vacation on some secluded island for the past year.) In fact, his views were the most positive I have heard or read in the past six months or so. However, he did say a couple of things that I agreed with. One was that television and radio have combin

Image via CrunchBase I’ve been thinking more about the future of the web, and I’m convinced what’s coming is not just another phase or version, but finally the real deal. Web 1.0 and web 2.0 are going to be looked back on as alpha and beta versions of the actual Web which is finally upon us. Techies refer to it as the semantic web, which is going to be a big part of it, but ultimately it’s going to come down to making money for businesses. Every enterprise out there is finally understan

In a strangely worded news release, TNS Media Intelligence says ABC pulled in $72 million for the 28 minutes of advertising in the Oscars. TNS called that “the most since 2004″ but then went on to note that in 2008 the Oscars had about $81 million in spots…making it seem that the “most” meant number of minutes of advertising, not revenue. ABC cut the price of :30s in the 2009 Oscar telecast from between $1.6 - $1.7 million to $1.4 million, and took a full six minutes 20 seconds for promos, acc

Despite all the predictions last year about online advertising's solidity in the face of recession, the new thinking is that it will remain positive as other ad categories rack up declines. BernsteinResearch's Jeff Lindsay's call that global online ad spend will grow only 5.9 percent—4.1 percent in the U.S. and 7.2 percent overseas—is slightly more optimistic than the recent spate of downward revisions by other analysts. Earlier this week, Veronis Suhler said it expected web ad dollars to rise

by Chris Silver Smith Many small businesses still rely upon their yellow pages listings to some degree for business referrals. A business’s listing data is not only found online in the internet yellow pages, but that same data feeds into the local search engines like Google Maps, Yahoo! Local, Live Local Search, and a myriad of other directory sites and local info sites. A really simple way to increase your small or medium business’s (”SMB”s) exposure on the internet is to insure that your
