The SEO Industry Needs a New Term for Linkbait - Part Deux: Lyndobait Anyone?

Posted under Local Search

previous post on this topic, you’ll notice that this one is a bit more lighthearted, so enjoy. Recently Lyndon Antcliff, often seen online as “Lyndoman”, shook things up a bit in the SEO industry by creating some brilliant fictional linkbait that received international news coverage, and garnered thousands of inbound links for one of his clients. There’s been plenty of coverage of the story, and if you’re not familiar, I suggest you read Search Engine Land’s coverage. Nick Wilsdon also has some

Social event planning with a side of local search

Posted under Local Search

When we wrote about Marziplanner's wedding planning software a little more than a year ago, we noted the related opportunity to devise an online version with more of a focus on the social side. As if on cue, a new site has just launched that brings social networking and Web 2.0 features to the planning of all events, nuptial or otherwise. As anyone who's ever planned even a simple get-together knows, it just isn't easy, what with all the calls to make, venues to find, reservations to book a

Grayboxx CEO Moves to Smalltown

Posted under Local Search

It’s very hard to resist those sorts of puns . . . Former Grayboxx CEO Nick Ordon now becomes president and CEO of Smalltown and founder Hal Rucker is moving into the dual role of Chief Strategy Officer and Chairman (both superior and subordinate to Ordon’s role). Robert Goldberg is also joining the board. Goldberg was an investor and board member of InsiderPages and formerly managing director of Idealab. The company recently launched SMB website building and distribution tool Webcards.com

Interview with Palore.com CEO Hanan Lifshitz

Posted under Local Search

Finished up an interview with Hanan Lifshitz from Palore.com and have it posted up on Search Engine Guide. I hope you find the interview worth the read as both Hanan and myself really like it. One thing I wanted to mention was how I first got to know Hanan and how I became familiar with Palore. A little over a year ago, he sent me an email mentioning that he was a regular reader of this blog. They had something new going on at the time, he sent me a link to it, then invited me to write blog p

Dash Express Receives First Over-the-Air Wi-Fi Update

Posted under Local Search

Just a few months after its initial launch, the Dash Express has received its first over-the-air update from manufacturer Dash Navigation. "Dash Navigation said owners of the Dash Express received an update via Wi-Fi to help drivers determine the best route option and to shorten the time it takes for the GPS unit to find satellite signals," writes TWICE's Amy Gilroy. "Dash said it was the first GPS provider to wirelessly update GPS devices in the field without requiring users purchase a DVD

Local Search Interview with Hanan Lifshitz, CEO of Palore

Posted under Local Search

by Paul Jahn It was just over a year ago when I chatted with Hanan Lifshitz of Palore for the first time. We've spoken a number of times since then, and he and the Palore team have done some great things in providing local business data. I'm very happy that Hanan has agreed to do an online interview. Paul: First of all Hanan, thanks for taking the time. It's been awhile since we have spoken. In a nutshell, what have you and Palore been up to and can you give the Search Engine Guide viewers an

Finding Products in Local Stores Now

Posted under Local Search

Products (and brand finders) are the next frontier in local search. Companies such as ShopLocal, Krillion, Shopatron, NearbyNow, Where2GetIt, StepUp/Intuit, Channel Intelligence and retailers themselves, among others, are building the data infrastructure that is going to turn “online shopping” on its head. Here’s another example of the “local opportunity” (or National Brands Going Local) that I’ve spoken about recently: leading customers to the point of sale. Where2GetIt powers Columbia Sport

Newspapers: Irish Times and Ireland.com

Posted under Local Search

It certainly helps if you own a killer domain like “Ireland.com.” UK based local search aficionado Dylan Fuller alerted me to the new Ireland.com, which is owned and operated by newspaper The Irish Times. Ireland.com used to be the Irish Times’ site, which it has now moved here. The Times operates Ireland.com as a portal for all-things-Ireland. And it represents something of a model for newspapers that can branch out and diversify to offer other content and capabilities on secondary sites. In
